Raymond Norton, PhD

Dr. Norton is Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia. His research focuses on the determination of polypeptide and protein structures by NMR spectroscopy and on structure-based molecular design. He is an internationally recognized researcher in the area of protein structure and toxins and has published over 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals, numerous book chapters, and invited reviews. He is also a co-inventor on three issued patents. In 2001, Professor Norton's group became part of the new Structural Biology Division of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne. Prior to that he was Head of the NMR Laboratory at the Biomolecular Research Institute and Assistant Institute Director, having previously been Associate Professor in the School of Biochemistry at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. In 1998 he was awarded the Amersham Pharmacia Biotech Medal of the Australian Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. He is a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne and La Trobe University. Dr. Norton received a PhD in Biochemistry and Chemistry from the Australian National University, Canberra.
