Dr. Kalman earned a PhD in Genetics and Biochemistry from the Jozsef Attila University in Hungary. Dr. Kalman is an Assistant Researcher in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Kalman was instrumental in identifying the novel Kv1.7 potassium channel gene. She also developed the peptides ShK and ShK-Dap22 as Kv1.3 inhibitors. Dr. Kalman has been the recipient of Diabetes Research Symposium Awards, has authored 15 papers, and is co-inventor on three U.S. patents. Her recent research includes creating transgenic mice to study the role of water channels, aquaporin, and connexins in cataract formation.
