Christine Beeton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. Dr. Beeton was responsible for demonstrating that ShK and analogs prevent and treat experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in rats caused by the adoptive transfer of myelin-reactive effector memory cells. Dr. Beeton, in collaboration with Dr. Pennington and Dr. Chandy, developed ShK-186, the potent and specific peptide inhibitor of Kv1.3, and is the first author of the recent PNAS paper describing the therapeutic potential of Kv1.3 inhibitors in MS, RA and T1DM. Dr. Beeton obtained a PhD in immunology from the University of Marseille-Luminy, France and carried out her postdoctoral research in Dr. Chandy's laboratory at the University of California, Irvine.
